In 2013, I embarked on a new career journey in the fitness industry. I had exercised inconsistently all my life and began gaining weight after I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism and Insulin Resistance (Pre Diabetes) when I was 37 years old. In a short time, I went from 125 to 154. I enrolled at National Personal Training Institute in Colorado Springs after researching programs outside of getting another college degree. NPTI seemed like the best route to go. I was very impressed with the program as I learned hands on training with program design, anatomy and physiology, Self Myofascial Release, workout programs for special populations and chronic diseases. Since 2014, I’ve lost 18 pounds and 18 inches. My BMI has gone from 31 to 27. I eat little sugar, no milk except for Almond Breeze and no bread or sodas.
Moving to Dallas, I got a job as an Esthetician just to get here then I saw an open personal training position at 24 Hour Fitness. I jumped at it, interviewed with the new Fitness Manager, who happened to have just moved here from Denver. He was acquainted with NPTI and knew the graduates were heavily science based. I got the job and soon after received my NASM certification in Corrective Exercise. After my 4th month, I realized I needed more money so I began interviewing within the fitness industry. My manager fully supporting me, I was able to get an interview with a country club as a fitness manager. I quickly got my 3rd certification through NASM as a Golf Specialist. I am so blessed to be in an industry where I am personally rewarded by just being a trainer who helps people improve the quality of their life.
I have been involved in personal training since July 2013. I received a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Colorado as well as attended the National Personal Training Institute of Colorado and received my certifications through National Academy of Sports Medicine and my Esthetics license in CO and in TX. My Yoga Teacher certification (200 hours) is through Sunstone Academy in Dallas, TX.
Taught a workshop on the benefits of Self Myofascial Release, aka SMR or Foam Rolling. My clients have seen a giant increase in their flexibility and a large decrease in muscle pain around their joints. My technique is to foam roll them with a ‘tiger tail’ or ‘pvc pipe’ or ball then they foam roll themselves. For pain on a scale of 1 – 10 (1 is low, 10 is high), I apply pressure to a pain threshold of 7.
The focus of my training has been on general fitness, weight-loss, injury prevention, senior fitness and individuals with sport specific goals. I am dedicated to the well-being and success of my clients. My ultimate goal is to empower my clients to live a healthy lifestyle as well as to improve their balance, strength and flexibility.
My professional interests lie in personal training, yoga, private sessions, corporate wellness, spa management and leadership.
