Juicing

My husband and I have juiced on and off for years. However, in learning more about nutrition and how raw fruits and vegetables can improve health, we’ve decided to juice more everyday and graze more. We’ve mostly cut out dairy, red meat and sugar so we are already feeling better and eating better. We have the Jack LaLanne Juicer and a blender so we use the best of both to make smoothies. When using a juicer, you tend to lose a lot of the fiber in the back of the machine so we take that fiber and juice and blend it in the blender. We get all the nutrients this way. If you decide to juice, make sure you drink plenty of water. Half your body weight in ounces to be exact. The reason is that when you begin a high fiber diet, the water you are drinking helps the fiber digest easier. If you don’t drink enough water, the fiber, let’s say, isn’t as easy to digest. Another issue with juicing and eating more fruits and veggies is the glycemic issue. For me, I have Insulin Resistance so that means high glycemic foods affect my pancreas in a not so positive way. My pancreas creates more insulin than my cells can absorb so the extra insulin is stored as fat. Consult your doctor or a nutritionist if you decide to juice.
